Honoring History at the Loeb Center
Preserving Natural Beauty at the Gateway to Touro Synagogue
Nestled at the entrance to one of Newport’s most historically significant sites, the John L. Loeb Visitors Center serves as the gateway to the storied grounds of Touro Synagogue, Patriot’s Park, and the Colonial Jewish Burying Ground. When we were entrusted with the exterior woodwork of this landmark building, we approached the project with deep respect for its setting and architectural integrity.
Unlike traditional painted finishes, the Loeb Center features beautifully crafted, natural wood surfaces that were weathered by time but still held their original character. Our team began with a meticulous hand-sanding process—carefully removing surface wear while preserving the unique grain and patina that define the building’s understated elegance.
Once the surface was fully prepared, we applied two coats of high-quality clear sealer, designed to protect the natural wood from the elements without masking its organic warmth and texture. The result is a finish that enhances the wood’s natural beauty while providing long-lasting defense against sun, moisture, and coastal conditions.
This was not just a maintenance project—it was an opportunity to help preserve a gateway to American history. We’re proud to have played a small role in ensuring that visitors to this sacred and significant site are welcomed by a structure that reflects both strength and grace.
